I went this morning with two goals in mind: 1) relocate the Western Spindalis, and 2) get a better photo of the La Sagra's with my big lens than I got last winter with my small lens. I failed miserably on both.

Shortly after I arrived I met up with Steve Collins of Texas, who was looking for the La Sagra's as a life bird. Sometime between 9:30 and 9:45, we heard it call from the dry snags on the east side of the nature trail about 50 yards south of the bathroom trail. It flew east, then came to the snags on the west side of the nature trail a little farther south. We later saw and heard it again in the first set of snags. It never cooperated enough for me to get a good photo. The only time I had it in good light, a tree got in the way. I'm brining a chainsaw next time.

Didn't see or hear anything like a Spindalis.
