I observed the female Black-throated Gray Warbler today,Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at 9:45 a.m. at Matheson Hammock Park (See Pranty's Guide for directions).Park in the north parking lot which is the first parking lot you will see on your left when you turn in at the main entrance(street-light) to the park. The yellow spot in front of the eye can be seen
quite easily when the bird gets in good light. It was actively feeding in Live Oak trees (Quercus virginiana) approximately 100 yards south of the
bathrooms in the park. I started in the oaks at the bathroom as this is where it has been seen on two previous occasions. It took me 15 minutes to find it, after pishing softly and attracting a mixed flock of passerines including:
Northern Parula
Black-throated Green Warbler
Palm Warbler
Blue-headedVireo
Gnatcatchers
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
A flock of Yellow-chevroned Parakeets was also in the area.
