This morning, before my ENP birding class, I visited the C-357 sparrow fields on SW 168 Street. While walking west along the berm, I spotted a pair of White-tailed Kites, perched on a distant tree along the dirt road the leads south along the eastern edge of the fields. I decided to get a closer look, so I backtracked and headed down that road, which I had never explored before. I was rewarded not only with close looks at the kites, but an unexpected bird along the way, an Orchard Oriole.
I saw four species of sparrows during my visit: Savannah, Grasshopper, Swamp and, just as I was leaving, my first of season Clay-colored.
