After arriving last night from NC, I decided to make a quick mid-morning survey in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP. I heard a La Sagra's Flycatcher call and located it within a few minutes. From 10-10:20 AM it called 6 different times, with total of 25 high-pitched, whistle-like "wheet" notes. I was concentrating on the La Sagra's and didn't notice its buddy until I reveiwed the photos. I assume "Buddy" is a very pale Great Crested Flycatcher. The face patterns are different and the Great Crested has a pink base of its bill (seen in another photo).
Location: It was in the intersection area where the dirt Nature Trail intersects with the restroom trail. It moved around the 4 corners and was easy to locate. For birders familiar with last winter's bird, it's in the same area. **The white gate is closed and posted with "No Trespassing." There have been administration changes in the park and birders must stay out of the gated area. If special permission is granted to walk a few yards east of the gate, I'll post it here. However, the bird was seen outside the gated area this morning and easily seen from public trails.
Directions: Enter Key Biscayne from Rickenbacker Causeway (toll) and drive to the end of the Key (~7 miles). Enter BBCFSP (fee) and turn right toward No Name Harbor and park. Walk back east and enter the dirt Nature Trail. Walk south 1/4 mile (450 yards) to the intersection and white gate.
