We added another new bird to the checklist for STA-5 today -- a White-faced Whistling-Duck. It was associating with several juvenile Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks. It's provenance is unknown but surely an escapee from some aviary or zoo, etc. WFWD breed in sub-Saharan Africa and much of South America. Also present was the Cassin's Kingbird but this time without his close relatives Western Kingbirds. They all seemed to be hanging out on STA-5 near the Deer fence Canal along with 7-8 Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. No sign of the Gray Kingbird from a few weeks ago. Other highlights from today's STA-5 tour included a Short-tailed Hawk, Canvasback and a few others. A full rundown of all species seen will follow along with a few pix of the White-faced Whistling Duck.
