Started in the dark at Lucky Hammock, and quickly had a Barn Owl that came within a few feet of me at one point. I had hoped to see Lesser Nighthawks, but I'll have to see those one of these afternoons. Not much until sunrise, when I was joined by Maria R. We proceeded to do some sparrowing in the fields around Lucky. We didn't have great variety, but there were good numbers in the shrubby area to the SW of the hammock and the field just to the west. Mostly Savannahs, but a good number of Grasshopper, plus one each Chipping and Vesper. We also had some raptors, including Crested Caracara and Swainson's Hawk. A very enjoyable morning indeed.
Wish I could have put in more time, but it was still nice to get some birding in before I have a different kind of encounter with a certain bird species this evening.
