Two west-coast birders who joined me near the end apparently did not find it either (as of this time, 1PM). Between 8 and 9 AM I neither saw nor heard a single bird of any kind on the trail. That's spooky.
Terry Doyle and I were the west coast birders in question and we searched until 1:30 to no avail.
Had a few flocks of Gnatcatchers, a Blue Headed Vireo, a couple Palm Warblers, an Ovenbird and a Great Crested Flycatcher.
