After lunch today we took a stroll to see what was around. We have yet to find good passerine habitat so we focused on raptors instead. First we found a beautiful adult Peregrine Falcon perched in a bare tree. While looking at the Peregrine a Northern Harrier swooped into view and took a dive at the Falcon! What an awesome view of these two species interacting. As we walked back to the building we heard an Eastern Phoebe, Redstart, Cardinal, Jays and plenty of Gnatcatchers. A dark morph Short-tailed Hawk flew in off the bay and dove rapidly over the building but missed its prey. Immediately after the hawk changed direction and started to circle the building a House Finch which had just landed on the building took off flying over us while it called. We wondered was the finch the hawks target? We will never know, but what a cool couple of raptors to observe while walking off our lunch.

Nature is Awesome
