Every year I have an interesting flock of birds that come by on Gifford Lane in Coconut Grove. For the last 3 years there has been a magnolia warbler. Last year I saw it gradually change into male breeding plumage. This year there is a male american redstart(last year I had 2 females). There is also a female black-throated green warbler. A solitary vireo is there again, but no yellow-throated vireo this winter. Palms, a male prairie, at least one ruby-throated hummingbird, and just recently a few myrtle warblers are in the group. Independent of this is the ovenbird that is almost always present walking around the enclosed side garden. I have had one just about every winter since 1994, I wonder if it's the same individual...
Oh and also on New Years Day I walked around UM campus and there was another magnolia in the arboretum, and a male black-throated blue nearby too. I didn't see any white crowned pigeons then, but I have many times...Lastly there is a very conspicuous yellow-throated warbler in the royal palms at Coconut Grove Station of Metrorail. Not unusual, but it forages at eye level, and its there much of the day.
