An American Wigeon arrived this week and joins about 45 mottled ducks and six Domesticated Mallards (a/k/a/Pekin ducks) at Hoechoka Hammock. The wigeon is buffy on the forhead but the green is very faint. Maybe between adult non-breeding and breeding? The behavior is of some interest. The mottled ducks pick on the wigeon with the same frequency they pick on each other but the mallards don't pick on any other duck. The wigeon finds peace in the midst of mallards and follows them.
