Lighting was just right this afternoon to show some field marks on the Virginia Key Great Black-Hawk that we normally don't see. This photo shows its long legs, yellow cere, narrow white band on the tip of the tail, part of the white basal area of the tail and the black-on-black barring on the wings. These are all field marks for the nominate race urubitinga. It posed from 5:15-5:19 PM and I was able to shoot through the binocular.
