From a trip Friday 1/2/04: 2 merlins were seen working the clearings around the old gas station as you first get into Flamingo. ST Hawk was also seen from there.
Warbler hunting was slow with no birds found along the boardwalk into West Lake; Ovenbird and BT Green were at Mahogany; N Waterthrush, Worm-eating, and AM Redstart were at the upper end of Snake Bight trail, and a male Cape May at the VC in Flamingo. The good news is that there were no Yellow-Rumps to sort through----yet. For those who have not been in the park yet this winter, the boardwalk at the end of the Snake Bight trail is closed for rehabbing...one wonders for how many YEARS. Good birding
