Hey, you don't really have to be a beginner to go on a Beginning Birdwalk! Only two people showed up for this introductory walk in the Park on Saturday, but we had a good time, anyway. We spotted all the usual birds, paying special attention to ID details. Eastern Meadowlarks were unusually prevalent toward the end of Research Road (at least 40), and we got a great look at an American Bittern slinking across the road by the research buildings. Warbler output was low, as all the good warbler habitat had swarms of mosquitoes that discouraged careful searching. Other interesting sights included Bella Moth past Gate 15, a zillion Halloween Pennants gearing up for the big day, a live snake (Coluber constrictor) and a dead one, and a Black vulture eating a deceased Florida Softshell.
