I mix my own seed. White millet, nyger, safflower: 3:1:1. No red millet, no sunflower. no corn. There is very little litter with that mix and the birds pick the feeder clean.

The bunting feeder is one of many on the market sold by Wild Birds Unlimited. I like the bell shaped one with the tube down the middle and the brass cage around the outside (sort of bee shapped). A cardinal can wiggle in but only with effort. All others are stopped at the bars.

The feeder is set right next to water and by the edge of heavy shrubs and trees (All native stopper/tetrazygia/bitterbush/dahoon holly and blolly. The entire setup is by my home-office window and I shoot the pictures from the office (come winter) with the window open and screen off.

Last month I had black throated blue warblers feeding at the feeder and brown thrasher scours the ground.

See epola.net for some of the bunting pictures.
