A flurry of Northern and Louisiana Waterthrushes, as well as 100+ ovenbirds were strewn about Matheson (the hammock side) Hammock Park this morning (11am - 12pm). I walked both trails toward the open back section and found the place full of them! The best concentration was underneath a fruiting ficus at the open-field side of the wooded trail (the more northern of the two, as opposed to the vehicle-able trail to the south). The base of the tree was flooded and produced a single first fall female HOODED WARBLER (say that 5 times fast!) among the "chink!"ing water/oven mix. There were many redstarts- mostly first year males and females, and Worm-eating warblers were still in high numbers. I finally found (as in "viewed") a female Summer Tanager, complete with red fig juice all over her mouth :o)
Chuck's and E. Kingbirds were abundant, as were Pileated Woodpeckers.
By 6pm the majority of the activity had dropped considerably- leaving only Redstarts and Ovenbirds in similar abundances, maybe they're taking the east wind to the West Coast? ....sniff....

cheers
David
