Eleven birders joined me for today's carpool trip to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and the Ft. Myers Beach area. Highlights along our usual route to Corkscrew (via CR 833 to CR 846) included about a dozen Crested Caracara, a flock of about fifteen Wild Turkey, including one displaying male, a female Snail Kite, a Roseate Spoonbill and several Limpkin. A wild piglet and several white-tailed deer were also spotted.

At Corkscrew, we crossed paths with several feeding flocks, but were unable to identify anything unexpected. Warblers seen along the boardwalk included Northern Parula, Yellow-throated, Pine, Prairie, Palm, Black-and-white, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush and Common Yellowthroat. Yellow-billed Cuckoos and a Yellow-throated Vireo were seen near Lettuce Lake; Gray Catbirds (fos for me) were seen at several locations. Resident birds included Red-shouldered Hawk, Downy and Pileated Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo, Tufted Titmouse and Carolina Wren.

After lunch at the Corkscrew visitor center, we headed to Bunch Beache for shorebirds. A fox squirrel was spotted in a yard just outside Corkscrew. We could not find the Red-necked Phalarope reported from Bunche Beach earlier in the week. Birds seen there included Reddish Egret, Black-bellied, Wilson's, Semipalmated and Piping Plovers, American Oystercatcher, Willet, Marbled Godwit, Ruddy Turnstone, Red Knot, Sanderling, Western Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher and Forster's Tern.
