I heard that huge flight again last night, about 11:30. Not as many calls as the previous night, but the calls were averaging about 1 every 2 seconds. The previous night it was a steady stream of many calls at once.
This morning I checked the east side of Matheson between the north and south parking lots and found 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, 1 Red-eyed Vireo, and several Gnatcatchers. I left in disgust after about 10 minutes. Winds were out of the north last night, and are forecast to remain the same for the next 5 nights. This means birds will continue to fly over us for the remainder of warbler migration. It's nice to know that millions of birds are making it to their destination, but it's also nice to see them once in a while. Birding is not a spectator sport. Ask a golfer if he minds staying home and looking at photos of other people playing golf. He wants to play once in a while too. I don't know, maybe looking at a radar image is more fun than looking at a Nashville Warbler perched behind a Golden-winged. It must just be me.
