Wanda, this species was intentionally released into the wild in the 40's in attempt to control or rid the sugarcane of insect pests. Today they are popular in the pet trade which has swelled the original escapee population in the wild. As people lose or irresponsibly release these non-native lizards their population will increase. Aggresive they are but the real culprits involved with the disapearance of native reptiles, birds and other native wildlife would be us humans and the feral CATS!
