Ran into my dear friend Lorena Siqueira this morning at A.D. Barnes and in three hours we racked up a nice variety of birds including a possible juvenile La Sagra's Flycatcher. We were on the elevated boardwalk on the nature trail when the flycatcher landed in within ten feet of us. The bird hat a long rufous tail with short primary projections, buff wing bars and tertial edges, a noticeable crest, black bill and pale underparts. Unfortunately, we did not hear it call. An adult Great-crested Flycatcher was nearby, which was noticeably larger.
Other good birds included Yellow-throated, Red-eyed and White-eyed Vireos, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Northern Parula, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-throated, Blackburnian (female), Prairie, Black and White, Worm-eating, Tennessee and a stunning male Blue-winged Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Baltimore Oriole (male and female),Summer Tanager and a small flock of Mitred Parakeets.
Life is good......................
