Thirteen birders joined me for this morning's TAS bird walk, which began at Kendall Indian Hammock Park. Highlights were an Acadian Flycatcher, seen and heard in the southeast section of the park, a couple of Blackburnian Warblers and a Summer Tanager. Other birds seen included Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk, White-crowned Pigeon, Monk Parakeet, Loggerhead Shrike, White-eyed and Red-eyed Vireos, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Parula, Black-throated Blue, Prairie and Black-and-white Warblers, American Redstart, Ovenbird and Northern Waterthrush.
Many in the group also joined me for a visit to the Environmental Center on Miami-Dade College's Kendall campus. Jake Tucker, the environmental center's grounds manager, graciously gave us a tour of the facility. Birds added here included Great Crested Flycatcher, Brown Thrasher and Spot-breasted Oriole. The environmental center grounds is open to the public from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM every second Saturday of the month.
