Not all of the results are in, but here are some of the highlights from Saturday's Miami Christmas Bird Count:
American Oystercatcher-at Morningside Park. Only the 4th sighting on the Miami CBC
Great Black Hawk-on Virginia Key. The origin of this bird, seen sporadically over the last few years, is the subject of considerable speculation.
Fourteen species of parrots (Monk, Black-hooded, Blue-crowned, Green, Mitred, Red-masked, White-eyed, Orange-fronted, Dusky-headed, White-winged, and Yellow-chevroned Parakeets, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, and White-fronted and Red-crowned Parrot)
Hermit Thrush-in Opa Locka ( just the 8th Miami CBC record)
Thirteen species of warblers (Northern Parula, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped, Yellow-throated, Pine, Prairie, Palm, Black-and-White, American Redstart, Worm-eating, Ovenbird, and Common Yellowthroat)
