Not just A flamingo- but 100 FLAMINGOS! Up to 100 birds have been seen in one aerial census this year. The most seen by land was somewhere around 45 (L. Manfredi), I think, although I seem to remember something in the 70's...but I could be mistaken. The best way to see them on a not-too-windy day is to take a canoe or kayak out from the Flamingo Marina and paddle east around Christian Point to enter Snake Bight. Paddle along the shoreline (there tends to be a little strip of deeper water...but this area can change drastically with the tides!) to get the best views. Watch your tides, and more importantly the wind, to make sure you don't get stuck on the flats (I had to spend the night on Garfield Bight three weeks ago...it's pretty cramped in the bottom of a canoe, regardless of the great stargazing). Alternatively you can take your chances walking down the Christian Point trail to the end and looking out onto a section of Snake Bight, or hiking down Rowdy Bend trail to the old Snake Bight platform that's under construction (not recommended).

Cheers

David
