During last Saturday's trip I was talking to Bonnie about a NWR in North Carolina where, on the bird list, Black Rails are common; also a book about photographing them and other rails, including yellow.

The book is Shadowbirds by William Burt. It's a great story, following a 19th-C. ornithologist's journal, with photos including a black rail on the nest. (Sorry Bonnie, no nesting yellow rail, as I said.)
As for the trip, thanks again to Paul and the other experts, it was really enjoyable and instructive; I had lifers for Barn Owl, Gull-Billed Tern and Wison's Phalarope.
