Just as we stepped out of the car we heard several Purple Martin chirps overhead. For next five minutes Martins were streaming overhead in high density. Some of the birds flew over a flood light and we were able to get a visual of Martins and one Chimney Swift. We could not estimate the number of birds overhead but the Martin roost one mile from home hosted over 8,000 birds this summer. With the sounds being somewhat defening a good number of those birds from the roost may have flown right over us, what an phenomenon.
