The agricultural area outside of the everglades had good numbers of shorebirds on Sunday. I found 3 Upland Sandpipers in the field SE of the intersection of SW 224th St. and Ingraham Hwy. On the muddy field on the other side of the highway in between SW 224th Ave. and SW 222nd Ave. is where most of the action was. I took the two track that runs N. opposite 224th and then went east on the track that bisects the field. In the low wet area at the interesection, I had point blank views of a White-rumped Sandpiper in addition to 2 Least Sandpiper. There were tons of Pectoral Sandpipers throughout the area. There was also a large flock of 40 or so Black-bellied Plover. This area looks ripe for some quality "grass" pipers. I would hesitate to drive in without a 4WD, however, if you come in from 222nd, the two-track is much drier....you could scope from there.
Other migrants seen in the area (C111e etc..) include a couple Bobolink, Red-eyed Vireo, BG Gnatcatcher, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, N. Parula, and numerous Gray Kingbirds.
The SB Dowitchers continue at Cutler.
