On the morning of November 4 I saw a brightly colored orange and black bird on my back porch. I had not seen Orioles here before so I snapped a few quick shots with a camera.

I downloaded the photos and tried to identify the bird but had no luck. Finally I emailed photos to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology who identified it as an Orange Bishop weaver, which are native to Africa. Anne Hobbs, from the lab, said that two small colonies have been established; one in California the other in Hawaii.

After a little further research I found other photos which confirmed this identification.
