You must understand that biologists do not disturb birds. They observe, count, catch, net, band, inspect nests, mark trees and spend days out in close proximity to birds of all types, but they do not disturb them. A birder, however, looking at a bird or group of birds from a distance, well, that may be too much for the birds to tolerate.
Don't worry, all Swallow-tailed Kites look alike. You've seen one you've seen them all. We get plenty right here in south Florida.
