It's not commonplace to spot a bald eagle here in suburban South Florida, but to see one on the verge of a small, man-made lake in an adult community in Boynton Beach (about a half mile north of Wakodahatchee) is something else.
We've had turkey vultures waddling on the verge and ospreys diving into the lake, but this was the first eagle I'd seen in this area.
I should have suspected that there was a very large bird in the vicinity when I noticed a huge bird dropping that had splashed through the overhead screening onto our patio floor. I inspected that dropping with some dismay until I looked up and saw this unmistakeable, majestic adult bald eagle standing there, about ten houses way. It was a sight to behold!
