Elusive bird identified

An unusual duck has been present among the mottled ducks at Hoechoka Hammock for the past 14 days. It has a strange squeeck noise and not a quack. It hangs with the mottled ducks but moves away as soon as approached and breaks the water by flying strainght up and then down the canal. Bad weather and glaring sun in the morning have frustrated all attempts to get an ident but this evening we surprised the creature and got three quick pictures.

I believe it to be a wood duck, female. If so, it is the first at our place and joins the bobcat as unusual "critters" at hoechoka Hammock

Maybe Sunday we can get a closer and better picture.
