Although still early in the season, shorebirds are beginning to head south through Florida and the Bahamas. With this storm to our southeast and the associated weather pushing onshore from the ocean, the potential exists to have rarities show up here, especially a good shorebird. For example, back in July of 08 there was a hurricane pushing up the Atlantic, and on the 18th I got lucky with a Hudsonian Godwit near Cutler Wetlands. Bob Wallace speculated that this bird could have been pushed our way by the storm, since the hurricane was right in the path this species usually takes on its migraton south.
Bottom line: we have a storm - get out and bird! I'm going to start looking this afternoon. Come on people, no slacking allowed. (but a little whining is permisable)
