On the drive back from the totally excellent Marco Island field trip, we added a pair of Eastern Blubirds on the wires outside the Links Golf Course, a Great White Heron feasting on a Bluegill, and an American Bittern standing on the side of the road along the Tamiami Trail. I had the distinct pleasure of being joined by Dewald Swanepoel, a young birder on holiday from Pretoria, South Africa, who on his first day in Florida, throughly enjoyed our trifecta of birding spectacles. He wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to Brian and Tropical Audubon for a most memorable day in the field. Having David LaPuma on board, we decided a celebratory libation was in order. I slaked my thirst with a Belgian Ale, Chimay Ale Grande Reserve, while the peasants quaffed Purple Haze, a Rasberry Wheat brewed by Abita Brewing Co. in New Orleans. Life is good...........living in paradise.
