For my morning walk at West Dade Regional Park, a nice surprise: a female Ring-necked Duck with the coots and moorhens.

Two families of mockingbirds and shrikes were mixing it up on the way back. At one point, one of the shrikes mewed harshly at a mocker sitting right next to it, while the shrike was wolfing down an insect. The mocker seemed bemused but held its ground.

At FIU yesterday morning, I enjoyed 10 minutes of agonistic displays between two hummers. Had any predators been in the vicinity, they would have been in trouble.

Good birding,
Susan
