I am so glad you made it out OK, Brian. Your story is a testament to the great power of friendship and fortune. I think I would have drunk the muddy water, but doubtless would be paying for that now.
This reminds me of the time last summer when Larry Manfredi and two other birders rescued me when my truck got stuck in the mud at Lucky Hammock. I, too, was beginning to suffer heat exhaustion in the 95-deg heat from my efforts to free the truck, and I had no water to drink. This, of course, was nowhere near as remote, and I probably could have dragged my sorry butt into the Park to find a ranger, but that heat was seriously dogging my every step. Larry and a cell phone were my salvation.
I'm sure glad you had the foresight wisdom to ask for help. I am never going into the Glades again without at least a six-pack in my backpack!
