This morning, I birded the Miami-Dade sections of Tamiami Trail and Loop Road within Big Cypress National Preserve. My primary objective was to find birds that are known to breed in the preserve, but not in Miami-Dade County. Candidates include Ruby-throated Hummingbird (one county nesting record from the 1940's), Red-eyed Vireo, Northern Parula and Prothonotary Warbler. I managed to find one of the four, a singing Northern Parula, seen on Tamiami Trail, 1.2 miles east of the Collier County line.
