It looks like some birds are beginning to stop off here and/or returning for the winter. On an incoming tide there were: Semipalmated Plover, increasing numbers of Ruddy Turnstone and Sanderling, Piping Plover (so far only 4), Black Skimmer (7), Caspian Tern (1). The usual birds are also in abundance: Royal Tern, Laughing Gull, and Least Tern (25). A Great Black-backed Gull has shown up and seems to be first-winter plumage.

A footnote: After no nesting activity last summer, the Least Terns seem to have returned to the top of Key Colony Condominiums for an active nesting season.
