Headed out to a friend's home in the El Portal area near where the White-winged Parakeets were sighted recently. Had 2 fly over his house and he said earlier some parakeets with red under wings (probably Red-masked) had also flown over. His block had many singing Mockingbirds, more than I usually see. Also had Chimney Swifts, Blue Jays, Fish Crows chasing a Cooper's Hawk and Red-bellied Woodpeckers. Soaring and circling high overhead was an Anhinga with a single White Ibis. Did not know that White Ibises soared.
We afterwards headed out to Haulover Marina. The standard Summer seabirds where there: Laughing Gulls, Magnificent Frigatebird (fun watching them pursue and take food away from gulls), Brown Pelican, Royal and Least Terns, Double-crested Cormorants, Monk Parakeetes and Gray Kingbirds. There were also some large Barracudas seen clearly from the marina.
Later I stopped by AD Barnes. As expected, very quiet. Had a family of Cooper's Hawks, some more Chimney Swifts, Mourning Doves, Common Nighthawk, Monk Parakeets, Blue Jays and Cardinals.
On the way home added Common Myna, White-crowned Pigeon (Bird Rd and 84), Green Heron (Snapper Creek Canal) and Purple Martins.
Very hot and muggy day but needed to get out and do some birding.
