I've seen all the excitment over the Red-headed Woodpecker. That's a great find! Here in Central Florida I am a volunteer photographer for the St. Johns Water Management District. I track and monitor the Red-cockaded Woodpecker at Hal Scott Preserve in Orange County. I've seen the concern in the responses to the Red-headed Woodpeckers, and I agree. They do need their space when nesting. A lot of people on them would be too way too much pressure. Those guys with the 500 lens should have no problem getting good shots.
Anyone interested in seeing Hal Scott's Woodpeckers are welcome to my site at www.flickr.com/photos/mudhen . You can click on the Endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker folder.
