Yesterday, the two of us headed out at noon, for 24 hours of birding Palm Beach County. Our first stop was Lake Worth Beach, with the highlights being Maginificent Frigatebird, Ruddy Turnstone, Northern Gannet, and many Least Tern. We then spent the afternoon at Sweetbay Natural Area, where we saw Pine Warblers and a male Wood Duck. Before dark, we got to Corbett WMA, where we were treated to a bobcat, feral pigs, a water snake (sp.), Barred Owl, and a road-roosting Chuck-Wills-Widow.
This morning at about 7:30am, we headed to Green Cay where the highlights where all the usual species that Eva posted about last week, but only one Spoonbill this time. At Wakodahatchee Wetlands, we got a quick glimpse of a Least Bittern and a Black-crowned Night Heron. We stopped at Loxahatchee NWR, where we saw two Pileated Woodpeckers. On the road back east we saw the Burrowing Owl at Manatee Elementary. We looked around the neighborhoods of Lake Worth for Spot-breasted Oriole but couldn't locate one. Along the intracoastal, we got a look at our only Little Blue Heron of the 24-hour period, making this the 67th and final bird of the trip.
Cheers,
-Andy Lantz
