Talk about prophetic. Not only was Dan telling a story about a Swainson's Thrush and a Swainson's Thrush shows up ON A PELAGIC! But, on our way out by Cape Florida, he mentioned how boats are difficult to maintain. I replied that every time you go out there's something to fix when you get back. Just then, for no explainable reason, the top light fell apart before our eyes! I mean it just exploded into shatterd pieces. What's up with that?
Considering how the winds and seas picked up, and I later learned that the near edge of the Gulfstream had pushed out 15 miles off Fowey Rocks light, we did pretty OK. With the Phalaropes, here's the complete tally:
Brown Booby (10-12)
Northern Gannet (2)
Magnificent Frigatebird (many)
Cory's Shearwater (1)
Wilson's Storm-Petrel (5)
Band-rumped Storm Petrel (1)
Red-necked Phalarope (~10 - 2 flocks of ~5 each)
Pomarine Jaeger (1)
Sooty Tern (3)
Bridled Tern (15-18)
Brown Noddy (1)
Arctic Tern (1)
