Gary and I finally saw our nemesis bird - the Mangrove Cuckoo at Blackpoint this morning around 8 A.M.!! It was by the parking lot where the canoe launch is located as described in previous posts.

We arrived at 7 A.M. without hearing or seeing anything (by the way we do not own an i-pod or any kind of recording device!), and continued to check along the turn-around and along the parking area. About 8 A.M. as we were heading back to our car we heard a Mangrove Cuckoo repeatedly calling from the mangroves and headed in that direction, when Gary spied a bird perched at the top of a tree close to the parking lot. And there it was!! We had wonderful looks at it as it stayed perched for a few minutes and then hopped over to another tree, still within view. We were able to confirm that it was a Mangrove Cuckoo and not a Yellow-billed one. We were half=way up the parking lot, before you get to the bridge or the turn-around. What an awesome and sweet view of a bird we had been trying to see for a long time.

Then, to make the morning even better, we saw a Red-whiskered Bulbul on the wires in the area it's usually seen in across from Baptist Hospital. A nice year-bird!!

No celebratory libation has been partaken of yet, but it will surely involve some form of ice cream indulgence!!
