Twenty-four birders joined me for today's trip to Key Largo. All target birds were tallied, though a few were heard-only. As is often the case on this trip, we were joined by several TAS members who are also members of the Miami Blue Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association. They will hopefully add their butterfly list to this report (though sadly, Schaus' Swallowtail was not seen).

We met at the Burger King in Florida City, where we spotted Common Myna and Common Nighthawk. At Alabama Jacks on Card Sound Road, we saw Magnificent Frigatebird and White-crowned Pigeon and heard Black-whiskered Vireo and Cuban Yellow Warbler. At an overlook on Card Sound Road in Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge, we saw several White-crowned Pigeons, a pair of calling Gray Kingbirds and a singing Prairie Warbler. On Old CR 905 in Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, which we walked all the way to its intersection with Old Card Sound Road (permit required for this area), we saw and heard several Black-whiskered and White-eyed Vireos and heard both Mangrove and Yellow-billed Cuckoo (fleeting glimpses were obtained of unidentified cuckoos). At Carysfort Circle, we saw Magnificent Frigatebird, Red-shouldered Hawk, Great Crested Flycatcher and Gray Kingbird. On the Port Bougainville Trail section at Dagny Johnson, we saw and heard more Black-whiskered and White-eyed Vireos, heard more Mangrove and Yellow-billed Cuckoos and saw our only two neotropical migrants for the day, a Cape May Warbler and a Northern Waterthrush.

We ended our morning with a delicious lunch at the Buzzard's Roost on Key Largo.
