I headed to Fort Desoto this afternoon to search for the Bahama Mockingbird and was rewarded with crippling views of the bird eating berries, preening and even vocalizing several times! The Bahama Mockingbird was in the same vicinity along the Privet trail as mentioned in previous post. There are lots of ripe berries in the bushes along the trail - this is a great opportunity to see a great bird. John
Directions:
Bahama Mockingbird, Pinellas County, St. Petersburg, Ft.
DeSoto County Park. Observer: Chris Rasmussen. Directions: From I-275 south) take exit #17 (Rt.682, look for brown sign to Fort), head west, then south on Rt. 679, to Fort Desoto Park. (DeLORME p. 90). After entering park, turn left (east) at T intersection, park in east end of first large parking lot past visitors' center and walk toward water. Privet trail
(unsigned) turns to left just before path through woods. Mockingbird seen on privet trail about 100 ft in - in large privet on right of trail.
