A quick trip to AD Barnes revealed that Fall is indeed at our doorstep:
10+ Red-eyed Vireos
MANY Blue Gray Gnatcatchers (>30)
4 Yellow-throated Warblers (all yellow lored subspecies)
7 Prairie Warblers (6 young birds, 1 adult)
1 Northern Parula (young bird)
2 Black-and-white Warblers (both female with extensive brown in wings...one almost perched on my nose while pishing!)
1 Prothonotary (Male)
2 Black-throated Blue Warblers (both male, one missing a tail)
4 American Redstarts
also present was one Brown Thrasher and the rest of the park regulars.
One note of concern: it seems like whomever was “fixing” the cats in the park has stopped...I saw several adults (male and female) without their ears clipped (indicating being fixed) and found two new kittens (they’re cute- someone should take them home with them!). The park is a mess with more garbage than ever filling the wooded areas, and Brazilian Pepper coming back in force (taking over the diversity of native fruit-bearing trees!). I found one northern mockingbird torn to bits while I was walking around...something should be done before all the ground skulkers start showing up!
I had to leave before I got finished birding, so I’m sure I could have missed some stuff...might be worth checking this afternoon...
cheers
David
