Paul Bithorn and I did the count from US41 west of Shark Valley to Monroe Station and then all of Loop Road. High water and high temps were the order of the day. The water levels resembled more the Fall Count, and limited the number of birds because they were far more dispersed. Although birding was slower than normal, we managed most of our targets (Prothonotary Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, Titmouse, Gnatcatcher, Barred Owl) but missed in 2 attempts for Snail Kite, and fanned on pineland specialties.

Loop Rd is currently more flooded pothole than road in most of the back sections, and caution should be used in making this trip.
