Ten birders joined me for this morning's bird walk at Kendall Indian Hammock Park. We made our way first to the spot where I found the Black-headed Grosbeak on Thursday. Joy Ness and her husband were there, but the grosbeak was not, so after about 20 minutes, I decided to take the group elsewhere. Except for a small group of warblers seen on one of the hammock trails, the birding in the park was slow. Seen were the following:
Osprey
Cooper's Hawk
Mourning Dove
Loggerhead Shrike
Blue Jay
Purple Martin
Northern Mockingbird
Northern Parula
Cape May Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
American Redstart
Northern Cardinal

On our third pass by the grosbeak spot, Lorena Siqueira spotted the grosbeak in the fruiting ficus on the west side of the trail, affording outstanding views to everyone still in attendance. It's always nice to end a walk on such a high note!
