The Wichita, KS Audubon Soc. has its last day in Florida today. Yesterday we had a great trip to Dry Tortugas with a decent fallout of birds including 19 species of warblers. We thought it was 18 till one of our less experienced members produced a photo of a Kentucky Warbler that she took. Species were as reported recently from Cape Florida and other locales. Four species of thrush including Veery and Wood Thrush. A couple of the Gray-cheeked looked brownish but I assume no one calls silent Bicknell's in these parts. On the pilings near the marina were 3 Whimbrel among other birds. A couple of Gray Kingbirds looking big and dark under the overcast conditions gave us a big thrill for a few minutes (we thought they were something more exciting) until we were brought down to earth by more level heads. On the way out and back we had several Bridled Terns as we neared Dry Tortugas and several Roseate Terns on the channel markers as we were leaving Key West. One of the VENT guides pointed out a beautiful adult Pomarine Jaeger on the way back which did a nice fly-by of the boat. Still some N. Gannets on the move also. Brown Boobies were on the channel markers and also we had 5 more out away from the island. Antillean Nighthawks called very close to the road at the Key West Airport last night and rewarded those few who stuck around. It's been a great trip and this birdboard has been a great tool for us to use in planning our trip. Thanks to all of you.
