Following are directions to the spot where I found the grosbeak this evening: The entrance to Kendall Indian Hammocks Park is on SW 107 Avenue, between Kendall Drive (SW 88 Street) and Sunset Drive (SW 72 Street). Drive west to the ballfields. Park at the west end of the ballfields; there is a playground and restroom just to the west of the ballfields. Walk across the park road to the hammock. There is a metal gate near the hammock trailhead. Look for the trail which begins at a "Laurel Oak" sign and a "9B" post. Take this trail north through the hammock. The hammock trails are extremely convoluted, but once you are almost at the north side of the hammock, look for a post with a green arrow on the east side of the trail (full disclosure: that post wasn't there before I found the bird, but I had to mark the spot somehow!) The bird was seen in the canopy above the post. It responded to a recording by flying to a lower perch and singing, providing crippling looks!

This was my nemesis bird for Florida; I've driven twice to Pensacola, among other road trips, to try to see this species. I have no problem with finally seeing one only three miles from home. It's #426 for the state. Good luck if you go for it tomorrow. I'll be subbing for Bill Boeringer on Sunday's Kendall Indian Hammock walk; if you can't make it to the park tomorrow or Saturday, please join me. Hopefully, the grosbeak will stick around until then.
