Seven birders joined me this morning for the TAS birdwalk at Matheson Hammock. Although we saw only a few warblers (Northern Parula, American Redstart, Cape May, and Common Yellowthroat), other migrants and year-round birds made for a pleasant morning. Migrants seen included Merlin, Yellow-billed Cuckoo and a flock (!) of 16 Spotted Sandpipers hanging out on the mangrove roots.

Local specialty birds included Hill Mynas, Yellow-chevroned and Red-masked Parakeets, and Blue-and-yellow and Chestnut-fronted Macaws.

We ran into three other birders at the conclusion of the Matheson walk. Brian and I took them and some of the original group in search of Red-whiskered Bulbul and Spot-breasted Oriole. We dipped on both at Kenwood Elementary, and headed for the Baptist Hospital area. We walked around the neighborhood north of Baptist, eventually finding a Spot-breasted Oriole and a Baltimore Oriole. A couple of bulbuls zipped by.

We walked around the block in hopes of seeing the bulbuls. We refound the Baltimore from the other side, still in the same palm tree. Then we noticed a Bronzed Cowbird. While we were looking at it, a Red-whiskered Bulbul popped up on the wire across the street. Pretty soon we had 3 Red-whiskered Bulbuls in view. That was a great way to end the walk.
