I had two in my yard this time last year and they hopped around on the leaves of my cannas looking for larvae of the Brazilian skipper. The larvae of this butterfly slit the leaves of the canna in two places and then fold the flap over themselves to hide during the day. The orioles knew about this ploy and would yank the flaps open and dine on the morsel inside.
Sure do miss them but they're not regulars in Homestead like they are in the Kendall/Coral Gables area.
