Hi all,
I arrived in S FLA today and right after I rented the car I headed down to Pelican Harbor to see about this Red-footed Booby. It took me longer to actually find the rehab center than it did to find the bird.
I then headed down to Bill Baggs and got there around 5pm or so to see if I could scare up the La Sagra's Flycatcher. I wasn't quite sure if I was in the "right spot", but when a passerby (apparently a local) asked me if I was looking for a flycatcher, I felt more assured that I was. She said that every day she sees people on that stretch of trail I was on, looking for "a flycatcher".
No luck for me on the Sagra's though. But I did see 10 warbler species. None of them were extraordinary for Bill Baggs I suppose, but I can tell you that after enduring this particularly long cold winter in northern Colorado, seeing 10 warbler species in an hour is a really, really awesome thing to behold. My favorite was the Cape May Warbler, which I had only seen on one other occasion. I actually encountered quite a few of each species, either that or they were just following me. I was also struck by how many males I saw.
Lots of Common Nighthawks peenting around the parking lots where I'm staying in Homestead tonight. I'm loving it.
Off to ENP tomorrow!
